In a study presented to the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego recently, Timothy Greenamyre of Emory Universityshowed how an exposure to a low level of the pesticide rotenone makes monkeys develop Parkinson’s disease. He was quoted as saying, “It provides proof of the concept that a lifetime of exposure to certain toxins can result in Parkinson’s disease.” Dr. Greenamyre had shown four years ago that a chemical called MPTP caused Parkinson’s in some San Francisco drug users in the 1980’s.
From time to time, Carbon Based Corporation, in its goal to provide pertinent health information to the general public and health care practitioners, will be posting warnings about nutritional supplements that are dangerous or make false claims. One such product has come to our attention that we feel needs to be made public immediately.

We feel the need to comment about recent reporting in the media about a lawsuit against the makers of the sweetener Splenda® (sucralose) which comes from their biggest competitor, the makers of NutraSweet® (aspartame). Recently, Splenda® has been making big inroads into the sales of aspartame, so much so that sales of Splenda® have surpassed those of NutraSweet®. Also, a number of websites have brought into question the safety of sucralose. We at Carbon Based Corporation think that it is important to get the facts straight.
